Biography:
Susann Müller, retired German handball player and coach, was born on 26 May 1988. She began her handball journey at a young age, joining her local club, 1.SSV Saalfeld, at the age of seven. In 2003, Müller made the switch to Bundesliga club HC Leipzig, where she quickly rose through the ranks. Her impressive performances caught the attention of the senior team, and she was promoted for the 2006–2007 Bundesliga season.
During her time at HC Leipzig, Müller showcased her exceptional talent as a left-handed shooter. In the first part of the season, she scored over 60 goals, earning herself a contract extension until 2010. Müller’s contributions played a significant role in the club’s success, as they secured two league titles, two national cup titles, and the German Supercup title in 2008.
In 2010, Müller made the decision to sign with Danish club SK Århus. The move allowed her to be closer to her partner, Nina Wörz, who was playing for Randers HK at the time. However, financial difficulties at Århus led to Müller leaving the club after just one season. She then joined Randers HK, where she had a remarkable 2011–12 season. Müller led Randers to the Danish league title and finished as the club’s top scorer with an impressive 124 goals.
Müller’s passion for handball led her to Slovenia, where she joined RK Krim in the following year. However, after a brief stint in Slovenia, she returned to Leipzig, where she spent another successful year. During this time, she added another silverware to her collection by winning the German Cup.
In 2014, Müller signed with Hungarian top club Győri ETO KC, becoming a replacement for Katarina Bulatović. Unfortunately, her time at the club was short-lived, as she and the club terminated her contract shortly afterwards. Müller then joined SG BBM Bietigheim, where she enjoyed a successful spell in the 2016-17 season of the Bundesliga. She not only helped her team win the league title but also became the league’s top scorer and the EHF Cup top scorer.
The love for handball eventually brought Müller back to the Danish league for the 2018–19 season, where she played for Silkeborg-Voel KFUM. With her experience and skills, Müller played a crucial role in her team’s performance.
On the international stage, Müller represented Germany in youth handball from a young age. In 2008, she achieved her biggest success to date when she won the Junior World Championship in Macedonia. Müller played a vital role in the final, scoring seven goals and leading the German team to a surprising victory over favorites Denmark with a score of 23–22.
Müller’s exceptional performances and goal-scoring abilities did not go unnoticed. In the 2013 World Championship, she emerged as the tournament’s top scorer and was selected for the All-Star team. Her outstanding contributions also earned her the title of Handballer of the Year in Germany in the same year.
Throughout her career, Susann Müller has left a lasting impact on handball. Her dedication, talent, and achievements have established her as one of the sport’s most respected figures. As a coach, she now trains the women’s team of Füchse Berlin, passing on her knowledge and experience to the next generation of handball players.
