Sofía Mulánovich Aljovín, born on June 24, 1983, is a Peruvian surfer who has made significant contributions to the world of surfing. She is widely recognized as a 3-time World Surfing Champion, winning one World Surf League (WSL) Championship and two International Surfing Association (ISA) World Championships . Achieving remarkable feats throughout her career, Mulánovich holds the title as the first Peruvian surfer to ever win a World Surf League World Championship Tour event. Furthermore, she became the first Latin American woman to secure the World Title in 2004 (Peruvian Felipe Pomar had previously won the Men’s World Surfing Championship in 1965). Mulánovich’s groundbreaking accomplishments have left an indelible mark on the sport and have paved the way for future generations of surfers.
In 2004, Mulánovich soared to prominence by triumphing in three out of the six World Championship Tour events, culminating in her crowning as the Absolute World Champion that season. Her incredible performance placed her as the sole Latin American surfer to have won two ISA World Championships. In 2004, she emerged victorious in the ISA Championships held in Salinas, Ecuador, and later in 2019, she claimed the title once again in Miyazaki, Japan .
