Biography:
Kathy Long (born April 21, 1964) is an American kickboxer, mixed martial artist, and actress. She has held various kickboxing championships, including two KICK World Kickboxing titles and the WKA and ISKA world titles.
Early Life:
Long was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and was raised in Sunny Mead, California. She later moved to Bakersfield, where she trained in martial arts under Eric Nolan, who was her manager and trainer throughout her kickboxing career.
Career:
Long is a practitioner of multiple martial arts disciplines. She began her training in the Japanese art of Aikido, eventually earning a black belt in the system. Long would go on to earn a black belt in Chinese Kung Fu San Soo, eventually reaching the level of master in the style. She also trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with the Machado family, as well as in Jeet Kune Do, Tae Kwon Do, Kali, and Wing Chun Kung Fu.
Long’s success in the world of kickboxing propelled her to become one of the top female fighters in the sport’s history. With a record of 18-1, she won five world titles and earned several nicknames including the Queen of Mean, Princess of Pain, and The Punisher. Some of her notable victories include wins over Ramona Gatto, Bonnie Canino, Japanese star Kyoko Kamikaze Miyazaki, French champion Dani Rocard, Canadian champion Nora Daigle, and two wins over Denise Taylor. Her only loss as a professional kickboxer came in a Muay Thai match with Britain’s Lisa Howarth.
Apart from kickboxing, Long also had a brief three-fight career in professional boxing between March and June 1998. She took two four-round decisions over Sandra Yard and lost a four-round decision to Lena Akesson, retiring from boxing with a career record of two wins and one defeat.
Long’s passion for combat sports extended beyond her own career. She provided commentary at the first Ultimate Fighting Championship event, showcasing her knowledge and expertise in the sport.
Outside of combat sports, Long has appeared in numerous movies and was Michelle Pfeiffer’s stunt double in Batman Returns. Her talent and versatility as an actress further showcased her ability to excel in various fields.
