Biography:
Elena A. Reid was born on November 1, 1981, in Phoenix, Arizona. From a young age, Reid showed a passion for sports, playing on an all-boys youth soccer team and participating in karate and boxing. At the age of 17, she accomplished an impressive feat by winning the Arizona State Kickboxing Title.
Reid’s professional boxing career began on April 18, 2000, in Phoenix, where she defeated Jo Ellen Caldwell by a four-round decision. However, her first victory was followed by a defeat at the hands of Layla McCarter. Despite this setback, Reid remained determined to make her mark in the boxing world.
On August 26, 2000, Reid achieved her first knockout win by defeating Jessica Elgin Combs in the first round of their fight in Las Vegas. This victory showcased her power and skill in the ring.
Her first title fight came on September 11, 2004, when she faced Regina Halmich in Karlsruhe, Germany, for Halmich’s WIBF Flyweight Title. The 10-round match ended in a draw, leaving Halmich as the title holder. Despite this outcome, Reid’s record stood at an impressive 14-1-5 (4 KO).
After several more fights, Reid earned a rematch against Halmich on December 3, 2005. Once again, the two fighters engaged in a closely contested bout, but this time, the judges scored the fight in favor of Halmich. Reid’s determination and perseverance were evident, but she fell short of claiming the WIBF Flyweight Title.
Undeterred, Reid continued to train and improve her skills. On August 31, 2006, she achieved a significant milestone in her career by winning the vacant WIBA Flyweight title. She defeated Mary The Heat Ortega in a ten-round unanimous decision, solidifying her position as a top contender in the flyweight division. Reid’s record now stood at an impressive (18-3-5).
In 2007, Reid’s training was overseen by Chris Ben, and she lived and trained in Las Vegas, Nevada. Alongside her boxing career, she also pursued a degree in marketing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
On July 2, 2007, Reid added another accolade to her resume by claiming the IFBA World Flyweight Championship. She defeated Shin Hi Choi in a thrilling match that showcased her skills and determination. Reid’s victory further solidified her position as one of the best female fighters in the world.
Reid ventured into mixed martial arts on December 28, 2007, making her professional debut in the sport. She faced Tammie Johnson and displayed her adaptability and versatility by showcasing her skills in a different combat sport. Although her MMA career was relatively short-lived, Reid’s willingness to explore new challenges demonstrated her fearless attitude.
