Biography:
Dzsenifer Marozsán is a professional footballer born on 18 April 1992, who currently plays as a midfielder for the French club Olympique Lyonnais. She has previously played for 1. FC Saarbrücken and 1. FFC Frankfurt in the German Frauen Bundesliga and has represented the Germany national team. Marozsán was born in Budapest, Hungary, and moved to Germany with her family in 1996, following her father János Marozsán’s signing a contract with 1. FC Saarbrücken. She began her football career at DJK Burbach, where she played for a boys’ team before joining the youth department of 1. FC Saarbrücken.
At the age of 14 years and 7 months, Marozsán became the youngest player to debut in the German Bundesliga when she played for 1. FC Saarbrücken in 2007. She also holds the record as the Bundesliga’s youngest goal scorer at 15 years and 4 months. In 2009, she signed with 1. FFC Frankfurt, where she had a successful career. During her time with the club, Frankfurt achieved two second-place finishes in the 2010-2011 and 2013-2014 seasons. Marozsán reached her first-ever UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) final in 2012 but was defeated 2-0 by her future club, Olympique Lyonnais.
One of Marozsán’s significant achievements took place during the 2014–2015 UWCL season. She played and scored in each knockout round of the tournament, leading Frankfurt to the final. In the final against PSG, Marozsán played the full ninety minutes and provided the assist to substitute Mandy Islacker, resulting in a victory for Frankfurt in extra time. With this win, she earned her first UWCL title and Frankfurt’s fourth. Marozsán finished as the top assister of the tournament with eight assists and was recognized by UEFA, being named to the team of the tournament. Her final season with Frankfurt ended with a third-place finish in the Bundesliga, which meant they were disqualified from the following season’s UWCL competition.
In July 2016, Marozsán signed with Olympique Lyonnais, a French club, marking a new chapter in her career. She has continued to excel with Lyon and has showcased her skills on the field.
Marozsán has also made her mark on the international stage. Representing the German national team, she played a crucial role in the team’s success. She scored the game-winning goal during the UEFA Women’s Euro 2013 semifinal against Sweden, helping Germany secure the championship title. Additionally, Marozsán led the unified German team to its first-ever Olympic gold medal in football at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. This victory was particularly significant as it was the first Olympic gold medal in football for Germany in forty years, following the East German men’s win in 1976.
