Christine A. Dailey, commonly known as Chris Dailey, was born on September 7, 1959, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Dailey is a renowned American women’s basketball coach, currently serving as the associate head coach for the Connecticut Huskies women’s basketball team since 1988. Throughout her career, Dailey has made immense contributions to the team’s success, leaving an indelible mark on the sport.
Dailey’s passion for basketball was ignited during her time at St. Peter the Apostle High School, where she played prep basketball. Her exceptional skills and dedication to the game led her to join the Rutgers University basketball team, where she played from 1978 to 1982. In her final two seasons, Dailey served as captain, showcasing her leadership abilities.
In 1982, Dailey graduated from Douglass College of Rutgers University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in health and physical education. With her deep knowledge of the game and a desire to make a difference, she embarked on a coaching career that would surpass all expectations.
Dailey’s coaching journey began in 1985 when she was hired as an assistant coach for the University of Connecticut (UConn) women’s basketball team. Recognizing her immense talent, she was promoted to the role of associate head coach in 1988. This position marked the beginning of a long and fruitful partnership with head coach Geno Auriemma.
Working alongside Auriemma, Dailey played a pivotal role in leading the UConn Huskies to unprecedented success. Together, they guided the team to eleven national titles, establishing UConn as one of the most dominant forces in women’s college basketball. Dailey’s contributions were not limited to national titles; she also played a significant role in securing 25 conference regular season titles and 24 conference tournament championships.
In recognition of her exceptional coaching career, Dailey was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018.
