Albina Lucy Charlotte Osipowich, later known as Albina Van Aken, was born on February 26, 1911, in the United States. She was an extraordinary athlete who achieved great success in the field of swimming during the 1920s and 1930s. Her remarkable feats at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam continue to be revered and admired to this day.
Osipowich’s talent in swimming became evident at a young age. She dedicated herself to rigorous training and quickly rose through the ranks of the competitive swimming world. In 1928, at the age of just seventeen, she represented the United States at the Summer Olympics and made her mark on the international stage.
