Małgorzata Kalinowska-Iszkowska (born 29 July 1946) is a Polish computer scientist, educator, and activist. She has made significant contributions to the field of information technology (IT) and has been recognized for her achievements with the Polish Gold Cross of Merit. Kalinowska-Iszkowska’s career has been marked by her dedication to promoting the importance of women’s participation in technical professions.
Kalinowska-Iszkowska completed her secondary education at Jan Kochanowski Secondary School in Warsaw in 1964. She then went on to graduate from Warsaw University of Technology in 1970, specializing in automation and mathematical machines. A decade later, she obtained her doctorate in technical sciences.
During her career, Kalinowska-Iszkowska has been involved in various research projects, including work on the early K-202 and KRTM (UMC-20) computers. She has also made significant contributions in the field of fuzzy sets.
In 1992, Kalinowska-Iszkowska began working for Digital Equipment Polska, and in 1996, she joined IBM Polska. She has also worked at TCH Systems SA, Positive, and ComputerLand, where she organized the Management Competence Center. From 2004 to 2007, she was employed by HP Polska as a government affairs manager, focusing on international regulations, including those of the European Union.
Throughout her career, Kalinowska-Iszkowska has been an active member of the Polish Information Technology Society (PTI). She served on the organization’s board from 2000 to 2011 and represented PTI in the Council of European Professional Informatics Societies (CEPIS). In fact, she served as vice-president of CEPIS from 2008 to 2011. She continued her involvement with PTI as the vice-president from 2015 and as a member of the management board of the Mazowieckie Branch of PTI from 2017.
Kalinowska-Iszkowska’s dedication to promoting women’s participation in technical professions is evident in her various roles. In 2002, she founded and became the President of the Association of Knowledge Management Practitioners. She has been actively involved in advocating for wider participation of women in technical fields, particularly in IT. From 2008 to 2011, she served as a board member of the European Center for Women and Technology and represented the organization in Poland.
In recognition of her contributions and achievements, Kalinowska-Iszkowska has received several awards. In 2005, she was awarded the Gold Cross of Merit. In 2016, she was recognized with the TOP TEN award for women managing Polish ICT businesses. In 2018, she received the Medal of the 70th anniversary of Polish Informatics from the Chapter of PTI.
Małgorzata Kalinowska-Iszkowska’s work in the field of information technology, her dedication to promoting women’s participation in technical professions, and her numerous accomplishments have had a lasting impact on society.
