Yasmine Pahlavi (Persian: یاسمین پهلوی, née Etemad-Amini, Persian: اعتماد امینی; born 26 July 1968) is an Iranian-American lawyer and human rights activist. She is best known as the wife of Reza Pahlavi, the crown prince of the Imperial State of Iran.
Yasmine Etemad-Amini was born in Pars Hospital in Tehran, Iran, on July 26, 1968. She spent her early years in Tehran and attended the private Tehran Community School. However, due to the political unrest and rising tensions in the late 1970s, her family was forced to leave Iran permanently. They settled in the San Francisco area of California, where Yasmine completed her high school education at Notre Dame High School.
Continuing her academic pursuits, Yasmine earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from George Washington University. She later obtained a Juris Doctor degree from George Washington University Law School. She is a member of the Maryland Bar Association.
After completing her education, Yasmine worked as a staff attorney for the Children’s Law Center in Washington, D.C. for a decade. During her time there, she dedicated herself to representing the rights of at-risk and underprivileged youth. Her work was instrumental in advocating for the well-being and fair treatment of children in need.
Yasmine’s passion for helping others extended beyond her legal career. In 1991, she co-founded the Foundation for the Children of Iran with the aim of providing healthcare services to Iranian children or children of Iranian origin regardless of their background. The foundation’s mission was to ensure that every child could access the healthcare they needed, regardless of their race, color, creed, religious or political affiliation. Yasmine served as a director of the foundation until February 2014 when she resigned from her leadership role and any affiliation with the organization.
In November 2018, Yasmine Pahlavi publicly revealed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Her courage and openness in sharing her journey with the disease served as an inspiration to many. Through her personal experience, she brought awareness to the importance of early detection and the challenges faced by those battling cancer.
Yasmine Pahlavi’s role as the wife of Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi has also played a significant part in her life. She married Reza Pahlavi on 12 June 1986, and the couple has three daughters together. Noor Pahlavi, born in 1992, Iman Pahlavi, born in 1993, and Farah Pahlavi, born in 2004. The family currently resides in the United States.
