Stephanie Louise Gilmore, born on January 29, 1988, is an Australian professional surfer and eight-time world champion on the Women’s WSL World Tour. Gilmore’s journey in the world of surfing began at a young age when she stood on a bodyboard at just 9 years old. Little did she know that this would set her on a path to becoming one of the most successful surfers in history.
By the age of 17, Gilmore was already competing in world tour events as a wild card competitor. Her talent and dedication paid off when she achieved a remarkable victory at the 2005 Roxy Pro Gold Coast. This marked the beginning of her rise to dominance in the world of professional surfing. In the following season, she once again won a wild card event, the 2006 Havaianas Beachley Classic, solidifying her status as a force to be reckoned with.
Gilmore’s remarkable success on the World Qualifying Series (WQS) tour earned her a place on the 2007 Women’s ASP World Tour, and she did not disappoint. She displayed incredible skill and determination, winning four of the eight events and ultimately claiming the 2007 World Title. This achievement was only the beginning of an unprecedented winning streak that would see her clinch the world title in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, and most recently in 2022.
