Meghann Moira Lanning AM (born 25 March 1992) is an Australian cricketer who currently captains the national women’s team. Throughout her career, Lanning has made significant contributions to the sport, winning numerous world championships and setting multiple records. Her success and impact on women’s cricket have solidified her place in history as one of the greatest cricketers of all time.
Lanning was born in Singapore to parents Wayne and Sue, who later relocated to the Sydney suburb of Thornleigh when she was still a child. Her passion for cricket began at the age of ten when her teacher encouraged her to try out for a regional team. Playing alongside future Australian teammates, such as Ellyse Perry, Lanning quickly displayed her talent and potential.
At 14 years old, Lanning made history by becoming the first girl to play First XI cricket for an Associated Public Schools team.
