Loredana Elena Toma, a Romanian weightlifter, is widely recognized as a formidable force in the sport. Born on May 10, 1995, Toma’s journey to becoming a two-time World Champion and four-time European Champion has been marked by incredible dedication and resilience.
Toma began her weightlifting career in the 58 kg and 63 kg categories, demonstrating her exceptional strength and technique. However, in 2018, the International Weightlifting Federation reorganized the weight classes, prompting Toma to transition to the 64 kg category.
Throughout her career, Toma has faced numerous challenges, exemplifying her resilience and determination to overcome adversity. In 2014, she tested positive for Stanozolol, resulting in a two-year ban imposed by the International Weightlifting Federation. Despite this setback, Toma refused to let it define her career and worked tirelessly to come back stronger.
Toma’s breakthrough moment came at the 2017 World Weightlifting Championships. Prior to this prestigious event, she had already established herself as a promising athlete by winning silver medals at the 2013 and 2014 European Weightlifting Championships in the 58 kg category. However, it was at the 2017 World Championships, competing in the 63 kg division, that she truly shone. Displaying unparalleled strength and skill, Toma clinched gold medals in the snatch, clean & jerk, and total. Her total of 237 kg surpassed the silver medalist, Lina Rivas, by a remarkable 12 kg.
In an extraordinary display of dominance, Toma reaffirmed her status as a weightlifting powerhouse at the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships. Competing in the 71 kg division, she astounded the audience by setting a new world record in the snatch with an impressive lift of 119 kg.
