Laura Flessel-Colovic, born on November 6, 1971, in Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, is a French fencer and politician. Starting her journey in the world of fencing at the tender age of six, Laura quickly displayed her extraordinary talent in the sport. As she progressed, she became the champion of Guadeloupe, showcasing her fierce determination and natural ability.
In her early years, Laura gained invaluable experience on the Caribbean, Central American, and Pan American circuits. In 1990, she achieved a significant milestone by winning the Pan American Championships in both foil and épée. This triumph further cemented her place as one of the rising stars in fencing.
In the same year, Laura made the decision to move to the mainland and joined the Racing Club de France. This shift allowed her to compete against some of the best French fencers, enabling her to hone her skills and elevate her performance. Laura also became a part of the prestigious National Institute of Sport, Expertise, and Performance (INSEP), where she continued her relentless pursuit of excellence.
Laura’s breakthrough on the international stage came in 1995 when she achieved a remarkable third-place finish at the World Championships in The Hague. Accompanying this bronze medal was a team silver medal, earned in a fiercely fought match against Hungary, with the participation of Valérie Barlois, Sophie Moressée, and Sangita Tripathi.
