Kiran Sethi is a remarkable police officer from Delhi, India, who has made significant contributions to women’s safety and empowerment. Born and raised in Delhi to a family deeply rooted in the city, she embarked on a journey that would shape her into a prominent figure in her field.
After completing her education at the prestigious Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Kiran Sethi joined the police force in 1987. With her passion for justice and gender equality, she quickly rose through the ranks, eventually attaining the title of Sub-Inspector of police (SI). Throughout her career, Sethi has exemplified dedication and determination in tackling cases of sexual assault and child sexual abuse.
One of Sethi’s most impactful initiatives is her role as the chief trainer in the self-defense course ‘Prahar’. This program has trained over 5,000 school and university students, equipping them with essential skills to protect themselves and empower them in all aspects of life. Additionally, Sethi has extended her training to over 200 hearing and sight-impaired students, ensuring that everyone has access to self-defense education.
Sethi’s commitment to the cause of women’s safety reached new heights when she organized and led the largest demonstration of self-defense by school students, an achievement that was duly recognized and recorded in the prestigious Limca Book of Records. She holds a black belt from the esteemed World Karate Organization, an achievement she earned in 1999. Sethi’s passion for martial arts led her to represent India in the 15th World Cup in 2006, where she showcased her skills on an international platform. In 2000, she was also recognized as the winner in the National Competition by the Taekwondo Federation of India.
