Kim Ji-yeon (Hangul: 김지연; Korean pronunciation: [kim.dʑi.jʌn] or [kim] [tɕi.jʌn]; born 12 March 1988) is a South Korean left-handed sabre fencer. She is widely recognized as one of the most successful and influential fencers in South Korean history. Over the course of her career, Kim has achieved numerous accolades and has left an indelible mark on women’s fencing. She is a five-time team Asian champion and four-time individual Asian champion, further solidifying her status as a dominant force in the sport.
Kim’s journey in the world of fencing started at the age of 13 when she began training as a foil fencer. However, it wasn’t until high school, at the age of 16, that she made the switch to sabre fencing.
