Biography:
Katerina Stefanidi (Greek: Κατερίνα Στεφανίδη; born 4 February 1990) is a Greek pole vaulter who has made a name for herself in the world of athletics. Known for her incredible talent and determination, Stefanidi has achieved numerous accolades throughout her career.
Born to athletes Georgios Stefanidis and Zoi Vareli, both of whom competed internationally in the triple jump and sprints respectively, Stefanidi was destined for an athletic career. With her parents’ support and guidance, she began her journey in pole vaulting at a young age.
Stefanidi’s talent quickly became evident as she rose through the ranks of junior competitions. At the age of 15, she became the 2005 World Under-18 champion, showcasing her potential to the world. She followed this up with a silver medal at the 2007 edition of the World Under-18 Championships.
In 2008, Stefanidi demonstrated her abilities once again by winning bronze at the World U20 Championships. This success earned her an athletic scholarship at Stanford University, where she joined the Stanford Cardinal team. Under the guidance of 2000 Olympic pole vault champion Nick Hysong, Stefanidi continued to hone her skills and make remarkable progress.
