Jeannette Richardson-Baars is the Director of the Aruba Police Academy, holding the rank of chief inspector in the Aruba Police Force. She is a renowned figure in the fight against human trafficking and has made significant contributions to raising awareness and combating this modern-day slavery.
Born and raised in Aruba, Richardson-Baars developed a deep sense of justice and a desire to protect the vulnerable from a young age. After completing her education, she joined the Aruba Police Force and quickly rose through the ranks due to her exceptional leadership skills and dedication. Her tireless efforts and passion for justice made her stand out among her peers, earning her the position of Director of the Aruba Police Academy.
In 2012, Richardson-Baars received international recognition for her outstanding work in combating human trafficking. The U.S. Department of State honored her with the annual Trafficking in Persons report, a prestigious award designed to raise public awareness of this heinous crime. It was a truly remarkable achievement, as the award had only been given to 110 individuals worldwide at that time. Richardson-Baars humbly accepted the award, giving credit to the Aruba TIP Task Force team, stating that she couldn’t be regarded as a hero without a great team.

Without a budget at her disposal, she used her personal computer to design posters in multiple languages, primarily Papiamento and Dutch, to educate both the locals and tourists about the dangers of human trafficking. Through her advocacy efforts, she was able to secure a nationwide memorandum from the Dutch government, allowing victims of human trafficking to find refuge off the island of Aruba.
