Grace Elizabeth Prendergast MNZM was born on June 30, 1992, in Christchurch, New Zealand. She is a former New Zealand sweep rower, renowned for her exceptional talent and numerous achievements in the sport. Prendergast has made significant contributions to the world of rowing, earning her a place in women’s history and inspiring generations of athletes.
Prendergast’s rowing journey began in 2007 when she joined the Avon Rowing Club in Christchurch. As a talented young athlete, she quickly established herself as a force to be reckoned with. In 2010, Prendergast was selected for New Zealand’s junior team and represented her country at the World Rowing Junior Championships in Račice, Czech Republic. There, she competed in the junior women’s four and secured a gold medal, alongside her teammate Eve MacFarlane.
With a remarkable talent for sweep rowing, Prendergast’s dedication and hard work became evident in the years that followed. She became a dominant force in the premier category of rowing, winning an impressive 15 national championships. Her exceptional skills led her to compete at the highest level of the sport, including multiple appearances at the Olympics and World Championships.
In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Prendergast competed in two boat classes and emerged triumphant in both. Alongside her partner Kerri Gowler, she captured the gold medal in the coxless pair event, and in the eight, she won a silver medal.
