Biography:
Elena Kaliská, born on 19 January 1972, is a retired Slovak slalom canoeist who made a name for herself in the world of water sports. With a career spanning over three decades, from 1988 to 2019, Kaliská has left an indelible mark on the sport, becoming one of the most successful athletes in the history of canoe slalom.
Kaliská’s Olympic journey began in 1996 when she competed in her first Summer Games in Atlanta. Over the course of her illustrious career, she went on to compete in four Summer Olympics, firmly establishing herself as a force to be reckoned with in the K1 event. It was in 2004, at the Athens Olympics, that Kaliská clinched her first gold medal in the K1 event, making history as the first Slovak athlete to achieve this feat.
Not content with just one Olympic gold, Kaliská continued to dominate the sport and successfully defended her title at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, solidifying her status as a true champion. Her exceptional skill and unwavering determination propelled her to the top of the podium, further inspiring a new generation of athletes in her home country and beyond.
In addition to her Olympic success, Kaliská has also achieved great heights at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships.
