Corinne Suter is a Swiss alpine skier who was born on September 28, 1994, in Schwyz. She has been a member of the Swiss Ski Association Swiss-Ski since 2010 and is known for her exceptional skills in downhill and super-G races. Suter’s talent and determination have propelled her to numerous victories and prestigious titles throughout her career, making her one of Switzerland’s most successful ski athletes.
Suter’s journey in skiing began when she joined the National Performance Centre for Alpine Skiing. In November 2009, she competed in her first FIS races, and in January of the following year, she made her debut in the European Cup. Impressed by her performances, the Swiss Ski Association invited her to join their C-squad, making her the youngest athlete to be included in the squad at that time. Suter continued honing her skills, attending the sports school in Engelberg from the summer of 2010.
During the 2010/11 season, Suter started participating in the European Cup more frequently, alongside FIS races. She achieved her first top 10 result in the downhill event in St. Moritz, finishing in sixth place. In January 2011, she became the Swiss Junior Champion in the giant slalom in her age group, and the following month, she represented Switzerland in the Junior World Championships held in Crans-Montana. Suter showcased her potential by securing ninth place in the Super-G and twentieth place in the Downhill despite a fall. In the slalom, she was unable to finish the race, and due to a shin contusion from the downhill event, she did not participate in the giant slalom.
Suter’s determination continued to drive her success. In March 2011, she triumphed as the Swiss Junior Women’s Downhill Champion in her age group. This victory further motivated her to strive for excellence. In September of the same year, she won the giant slalom at the New Zealand Championships before making her debut in the World Cup races in Aspen. Although she was unable to advance in the slalom and giant slalom events, she showcased her potential in the subsequent Nor-Am races at the same venue, where she reached the podium twice. Her breakthrough came on December 19, 2011, when she secured her first victory in the European Cup, dominating the giant slalom race in Valtournenche.
Suter’s success continued to flourish in the following years. At the 2012 Junior World Championships in Roccaraso, she achieved remarkable results, winning the bronze medal in the combined event and finishing fourth in the super-G, seventh in the giant slalom, and twelfth in the slalom. Later that year, she showcased her skills at the Swiss Championships, solidifying her position as a rising star in Swiss skiing.
Throughout her career, Suter’s determination and hard work paid off, earning her numerous accolades and recognition. She has competed in multiple Olympic Games, World Championships, and World Cup events, consistently showcasing her skills on the international stage. In 2021, Suter became a world champion in the downhill event, and the following year, she secured the Olympic gold medal in the same discipline.
