Jessica Klimkait (born 31 December 1996) is a Canadian Judoka who competes in the women’s 57 kg category. She has made significant contributions to the sport of judo in Canada and has achieved remarkable success in international competitions.
Klimkait’s journey in judo began at the age of five when she joined the Ajax Budokan Judo Club. Inspired by her older brother’s involvement in the sport, she quickly fell in love with judo and dedicated herself to its practice and mastery. Her natural talent and unwavering determination paved the way for a successful career.
In 2013, at the Cadet (U18) World Championship in Miami, Klimkait made history by becoming the first Canadian female judoka to win an age group world championship. This early achievement was a testament to her exceptional skill and marked the beginning of a promising career.
Continuing to excel in her discipline, Klimkait went on to win gold at the 2017 Pan American Judo Championships. Her performance in this prestigious competition solidified her status as one of Canada’s top judo athletes.
The pinnacle of Klimkait’s career came in 2021 when she became Canada’s second judo world champion. Competing in the women’s lightfoot (57 kg) category at the world championships in Budapest, Hungary, she faced formidable opponents from around the globe. In an exhilarating final match, Klimkait triumphed over Momo Tamaoki of Japan to claim the gold medal. This remarkable victory not only earned her the title of world champion but also secured her spot in the Tokyo Olympic Games.
