Emiko Iwasaki (岩崎恵美子, Iwasaki Emiko, born October 16, 1976) is a Japanese video game artist hailing from Yokohama. Since her entry into the industry in 1999, she has made significant contributions and left a lasting impact. Iwasaki gained widespread recognition and prominence through her work with Arc System Works’s Guilty Gear series.
Starting her career as a part-time artist at the company, Iwasaki’s talent and dedication quickly became apparent. This led to her taking on the role of general director for four titles, making her one of the few women in the Japanese game industry to hold such a position. Her passion for game development was evident, and she thrived in her newfound role.
One of Iwasaki’s notable achievements was her involvement in the development of Battle Fantasia, a game that originated from her own creative concept. This title marked Arc System Works’s venture into creating a fighting game with 3D models, and Iwasaki played a crucial role in its success. Despite having no previous experience, she and her team pioneered the use of 2.5D techniques, which would go on to influence other games, including the renowned Street Fighter IV.
In 2011, after an admirable tenure at Arc System Works, Iwasaki decided to embark on a new chapter in her career. She relocated to Singapore and took on leading positions in Gumi, a prominent mobile game developer.
